Sensei Jim Grafe Memorial Page

Kyokushin Sensei, Friend and more...

(1954-2002)

We are all deeply saddened by the passing of our freind and mentor, Sensei Jim Grafe. He was Shihan Mike Monaco's first Karate student and close friend in addition to being the founder of The Hilton Kyokushin Karate School over 20 years ago....

Sensei Jim was a full contact fighting champion, an unrivalled breaking expert and a charismatic teacher of Karate. Above all of these accomplishments, Sensei Jim will forever be remembered for his enormous spirit and how he shared it with everyone he would meet. His brand of friendliness made even an total stranger feel at ease as if he had known them for years...

Because of Sensei Jim we have learned to put aside our fears and indifference to acheive common goals. We have learned the meaning of patience with ourselves and with others as well as an appreciation for all, regardless of status. We have learned to look within ourselves as that is where the true meaning begins and ends. He taught us to look beyond our limitations to find acheivements. These silent lessons are just a few of the many things over the years that Sensei Jim gave along with his humour and laughter.....

Sensei Jim was willing to take chances on all people, many of whom became his best freinds. He gave himself to his family, friends and students freely, sharing his opinions, his love for karate or just his time, helping out the many people his life touched.....

The loss of Sensei Jim need not be filled with sorrow but should be an inspiration of life for all who knew him and all that will know him, through the many stories that will be shared about his legacy....

We will always miss you Sensei...

Osu.
